The Problem Most Veterans Aren’t Told About

Living with PTSD isn’t just about anxiety, sleep, or hypervigilance.

For many veterans, the hardest part is losing control.

  • Being managed by systems

  • Waiting for approvals

  • Having decisions made for you

  • Relying on support instead of capability

Over time, that loss of control can quietly become the real problem.

Not because you’re weak but because your independence matters.

Independence isn’t just about doing more by yourself.

It’s about:

  • Making your own decisions

  • Trusting yourself again

  • Moving through the world without permission or supervision

And for many veterans, traditional assistance options unintentionally take that away.

What if support didn’t reduce your independence, but strengthened it?

What if the process of building support was part of the recovery?

These questions are the foundation of our program.

We've Designed this for Australians who are:

  • Veterans currently serving, formerly serviced or reservists

  • Former ADF members supported by DVA

  • Ex-service personnel managing PTSD

  • Veterans living with PTSD who want their independence back

There Are Two Different Approaches to Assistance Dogs

Many veterans are offered access to free assistance dog programs through charities or government-supported organisations.

These programs help many people but they are built around a very different model to ours.

Understanding the difference is important if long-term independence and ownership matter to you.

The Free Placement Model

Most free programs are designed to:

  • Place a fully trained adult dog with you (some say they seem dull and lifeless, no personality)

  • They (the organisation) Retain legal ownership of the dog

  • Monitor and manage the partnership long-term

This usually means:

  • Long waiting lists (usually 2 years or more)

  • You do not meet the dog as a puppy (you don't get to bond early)

  • The dog is not legally yours

  • The dog will be removed when it retires (whatever bond you do create gets taken away from you)

  • Training decisions are controlled by the organisation

For many people, this model works well.

For Veterans like yourself who value control, ownership, and long-term stability it can feel limiting.

Our Training & Ownership Model

Our program is built for people who want a different outcome.

We provide:

  • A purpose-bred puppy with 7+ years of genetic and temperament history (Very important)

  • Step-by-step training you complete yourself, with professional support

  • Full legal ownership of your dog

  • A partnership you build from 8 weeks of age

  • Independence that does not depend on an organisation retaining control

This means:

  • No waiting years for placement

  • A stronger bond through training

  • Skills you keep for life

  • A dog that remains yours after retirement

The Key Difference

Free programs give you a dog. We teach you to train one while you bond with him/her and keep your bond for life

“By being by my side when I withdraw and disappear, My dog has given me the mental fortitude to do the things I would normally shy from and or avoid.”

“Taylor has been amazing in helping Tomas and I on our journey to him becoming a fully qualified Assistance Dog.

She is a fantastic, positive and motivating trainer, and seems to have so many little tricks up her sleeve to help dogs understand what you are asking of them.

I love that she also supplies me with training treats and tools such as leashes etx. Alpha Lykos K9 Training and Behaviour has also been a great advocate for me when I have encountered critical or abusive security guards etx, so I can relax and let them advocate for me.

I cannot recommend more highly”

"Can Not Recommend Taylor Highly Enough"

"The power of an assistance dog called ; Bugs

A few short months ago we welcomed an assistance dog in training into our household , never did I think that the changes would be so rapid in my daughter .

Under the guidance of Taylor both my daughter and her dog have blossomed , the dedication she shows into the training required , has been returned 10 fold to her by the dog that's at her side . From a girl crippled by social anxiety , one that every shopping trip was a challenge . That she had to hold on to me to help ground her….

Where I , as the parent, had to decide if something was necessary or whether we could go without it for another time .

When Bugs arrived the switch turned on , she had to face the shops in order to expose her puppy , she had to show him the environment and things he needed to help her with . Slowly her confidence grew and she started showing up , standing up and knowing she could do this.

Last night she came with me to toastmasters , which is a platform for people to learn how to speak . While she is still too young to join , she was asked as a guest if she wanted to speak , to my absolute amazement she said yes

what happened next was thanks to Bug

She stood up , owned her space and spoke clearly and confidently about the topic , about having confidence when you don't think you have it . And her secret weapon was of course was Bugs.

I watched last night a beautiful butterfly emerge thanks to a dog named Bugs"

“Taylor provides my assistant dog in training (Nora) and I with an individualised training program that is effective and has changed the projectory of our training journey to one that is positive and excellent”

-Tahlia and Nora

“This company has been an absolute life saver. I’d been trying for years to buy and train a service dog but didn’t have the resources or expertise to make it happen, which I now have through them.

The first 8 weeks were great, getting to see the pups grow, and while training in the program I felt incredibly supported and able to complete the program.

I definitely feel that when the time comes for us to take the PAT (Public Access Test), we will be ready.

I can’t rate them highly enough"
